I started work in the late seventies with Cadbury Schweppes, in my 13 years with Cadbury I had a great time, a new job every two years or so really keeps you on your toes, I had a variety of roles; production planning, safety and risk management, operations management (crème eggs and buttons, yum) performance improvement, employee relations and HR. Nowadays we call that kind of development Talent Management and I can tell you it works. I left Cadbury in 1990 and moved over to the “Dark Side” as a HR and Change Consultant with Bourton Group. For the next 15 years I worked in the UK and internationally with over 150 clients creating and doing major change programmes. I learned an enormous amount about business, performance, and how people give and get their best. Since joining TMI in 2005 clients I have worked with include M&S, British Airways, Richmond Housing Partnership, Ofqual, NHS, Heathrow Airport, Britvic and EMC.
What gets me out of bed in the morning is the thought that today I will be able to make a difference for our clients, the client's people I am working with and the bottom line.
What I do at TMI
During my time at TMI, I have managed to accumulate a broad range of experience and projects. Many of my projects these days combine my understanding of process improvement together with my experience in behavioural change to deliver tangible service improvement.
What do I bring to Clients
As well as scar tissue and a never-ending supply of anecdotes clients tell me that I bring the right mix of push and pull to challenge their thinking, giving them ideas that will work in practice. What gets me out of bed in the morning is the thought that today I will be able to make a difference for our clients, the client’s people I am working with and the bottom line. I love being presented with a tricky problem and working with people to find solutions that really work. The team here at TMI are a real source of inspiration, and together we do brilliant work whether it be Performance, Talent or Service that the client has engaged us to help with.
When I'm not working
With four children (some of them all grown up now) there is always something happening, I read continuously, enjoy cooking and spending time with friends and family, usually both at the same time. My other “thing” is making, tinkering and playing guitar, I play in two bands; a café jazz quintet and a classic rock covers band, it keeps me off the streets as my partner Ann tells me.
